Treatments for Anxiety and Stress-Related issues

Anxiety is a normal response to threat that people experience throughout their lives. But when anxiety causes significant distress or impairment, or suffering, treatment is often indicated. "Clinical" anxiety can manifest in many different ways. For example, an anxiety disorder can take the shape of a simple phobia (e.g., fear of spiders), social anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder, or generalized anxiety disorder, among other identifiable disorders.

Anxiety disorders are common (one out of four people experience clinical anxiety at some point in their life), persistent, and can cause substantial impairment in social relationships and work productivity. If left untreated, quality of life can be affected and suffering may continue for longer than it needs to.

The UT Anxiety and Stress Lab's work is motivated by the pursuit to alleviate suffering associated with clinical anxiety and stress. Through our research and training opportunities we seek to
improve the scientific understanding of the nature of anxiety and stress to ultimately inform/enhance psychological interventions. Because improving treatment is the ultimate goal of our work, we believe that it is important to disseminate information regarding empirically-supported treatments. Fortunately, highly-effective, cognitive-behavioral treatments are available for anxiety disorders.

We provide the following link for education on empirically supported treatments for anxiety disorders.
